Quick and simple test that identifies allergies to pollen, mold, pet dander, dust mites, and foods. Results within 20 minutes.
Performed on forearm or upper back
🩸 Blood Test
Measures immunoglobulin (IgE) antibody levels in response to specific allergens. Sent to laboratory for analysis.
No special preparation needed
Is Skin Prick Test Painful?
No. It uses lancets that barely penetrate the skin surface. It doesn't cause bleeding and feels like mild, momentary discomfort.
How to Prepare for Skin Prick Test
Tell your doctor about all medications you're taking. Some can interfere with results. You may need to avoid:
- Antihistamines (loratadine, cetirizine, etc.)
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Some heartburn medications
Who Should Not Take Skin Prick Test?
- History of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
- Taking medications that affect results
- Severe eczema affecting large areas of arms/back
